My journey as the writer of Ealing's annual Pantomime began in 2022, with a mission to inject a shot of joyful anarchy into the Questors Theatre stage. I believe the best family entertainment operates on two levels: the pure, silly fun that captivates children, and a smarter, subversive wit that winks at the adults. This ensures not just a show, but a shared event where the entire family laughs together.
King Arthur is searching for the mystical Twelfth Knight of the Round Table. Eileen Sideways is determined her son Ivor will marry his way out of the kitchen. Esme Drayton is frustrated being an obedient daughter. The classic Arthurian legend is given the Twelfth Night treatment when Esme swaps places with the kitchen boy and gets herself apprenticed to Sir Lancelot. Chaos and merriment ensues in this fast paced pantomime.
Peggy Legge is doing everything she can to keep the Admiral Benbow afloat, her adopted son Jim Hawkins is having trouble telling Holly Trelawny about his complicated teenage feelings. When a treasure map is unexpectedly bequeathed to them the entire family sets sail with a group of bloodthirsty pirates. Jim's adventure isn't just about the treasure, it's also about where you really belong and what really matters as you grow up.
Cyndi is done with her dreary life at the launderette, she’s ready to be 'Footloose' and fancy free. But is true love to be found with Prince Adam in Nakatomi City or does the arrival of a stranger' from a distant world mean the 'Power of Love' will work in mysterious ways? Expect bad attitudes, big tunes, and bigger hair as Cyndi takes charge and lets her 'True Colours' show. A riotous retelling of Cinderella like you've never seen before; louder, bolder, and dripping in 1980s glam.
While my personal creative passion lies in crafting a more anarchic and subversive style of pantomime, I recognise that many venues thrive on the timeless charm of a traditional script. To that end, I am also developing pantomimes that faithfully honour the classic conventions, ensuring they are a perfect fit for theatres with a more traditional audience base.
